What it is

9amHealth (it also writes its name as 9am) is a telehealth program for weight management, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure [1]. Much of its public site is aimed at employers, health plans and pharmacy benefit managers, and for eligible members of some benefit plans it says the program costs nothing [7]. Copays for medicines, labs and devices can still apply in that setting [8].

What it prescribes

Brand-name medicines only, as far as its pages show. For people who qualify for weight-loss drugs, 9am lists branded GLP-1s such as Wegovy and Zepbound alongside FDA-approved generic medicines, and says it helps with insurance approvals [2]. Its FAQ names Wegovy, Zepbound and Saxenda as the GLP-1s approved for weight loss and says patients must meet diagnostic criteria, such as a BMI over 30, or over 27 with other conditions [3]. We found no compounded GLP-1 anywhere on its site.

Getting a GLP-1 is not automatic. Its help center says that when clinical criteria are met, finishing a 90-day guided lifestyle program can qualify a member for a GLP-1 prescription [9]. That rule appears in answers written for benefit-plan members, so self-pay patients should ask whether it applies to them.

What it costs

The company does not post a self-pay price for individuals on its public pages. The only fee we found is a $69 membership fee, mentioned on its metformin page in the answer about which insurance plans can cover it [4]. That answer lists PPO plans in Texas and California only [5]. Its terms add that some services can be billed as a covered insurance benefit without a subscription fee [12].

The medicine is paid through your pharmacy benefit or out of pocket. 9am says GLP-1s need prior authorization from your health plan [6], and manufacturer coupons cannot be used by people on Medicare or Medicaid [11]. Signing up and cancelling

To cancel, you email, call or message the care team, and 9am says it confirms the cancellation within 48 hours [10]. We did not find a stated minimum term, so ask before you pay. Our guide to cancelling a GLP-1 program lists what to check first.

Where it operates

Its terms say the service is for residents of the United States [13]. We found no list of the states where its clinicians can prescribe.

Safety and regulatory record

9am prescribes FDA-approved brand-name GLP-1s [2]. GLPLens searched FDA’s warning-letter database in September and found no letter to the company.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

The program suits people whose employer or health plan offers it as a benefit, and people with commercial insurance who want help getting a brand-name GLP-1 approved. It also suits people managing diabetes or blood pressure alongside their weight.
