What it is

knownwell is a medical practice that offers primary care and weight management, including obesity medicine, health coaching and, when appropriate, prescription GLP-1s [17]. Many visits can be booked either in person at one of its clinics or by secure video [14], and knownwell says you keep the same clinician either way [18]. It offers weight management in all 50 states [3].

Unlike most online programs, it has no membership fee [2]. It bills your insurance, or you pay per visit.

What it prescribes

knownwell prescribes; it does not sell drugs. It says it does not dispense medications, is not a pharmacy and does not set medication prices [7]. Its medication price page covers Wegovy [21], Zepbound [22] and Foundayo [23], among others. Prescriptions can go to LillyDirect and its partner pharmacy or to other pharmacies [9]. Labs are sometimes needed before a prescription, depending on the medicine and your history [16].

What it costs

If you pay yourself, a first weight-management visit is $299 and each follow-up is $149, and those prices do not include prescriptions [1]. knownwell offers no discount for self-pay patients [15]. It says how often you need to be seen depends on the medicine and your care plan [12], so there is no way to work out a yearly self-pay total from its pages. With insurance, knownwell is in network with most major plans [4]. It says some plans cover the medicine, with copays as low as $25 [5]. Patients on Medicare or other government plans are told to fill at pharmacies such as NovoCare or LillyDirect for discounts [6]; see our Medicare GLP-1 Bridge guide. You can use an HSA or FSA card for your copay [13].

knownwell’s medication page lists cash prices based on the makers’ information [8], but it says end-user prices may vary and points you to the makers [20]. The page was last updated in May [19]. Check LillyDirect and NovoCare for current prices.

Signing up and cancelling

There is no membership to cancel [2], so you can stop at any time. The rules are about appointments: cancel more than 24 hours ahead and you get a full refund [11], but a late cancellation or a no-show costs $50 [10].

Safety and regulatory record

knownwell prescribes brand-name medicines and leaves dispensing to pharmacies [7]. We found no compounded GLP-1 on its pricing, medication or FAQ pages. GLPLens searched FDA’s warning-letter database in September and found no letter to knownwell about GLP-1 products.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

knownwell suits people with in-network commercial insurance who want an obesity-medicine clinician, ideally one they can also see in person, and who do not want another monthly membership. It may also suit people on Medicare: its site says the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program is live [24].

Look elsewhere if you are paying cash and want a predictable monthly bill. At $149 per follow-up [1], monthly visits would cost more than a flat-fee plan such as Sesame’s $99 month-to-month subscription [25].
