Ro (Ro Body) review

What it is

Ro is a telehealth company, and Ro Body is its weight-loss membership. The membership covers access to GLP-1 prescriptions, a treatment plan, an insurance concierge, messaging with a provider, check-ins, coaching and lab tests if needed [5]. The medicine is a separate charge [6].

Ro’s terms allow up to 24 consults a year with a Ro-affiliated provider [17]. Past that, each extra consult costs $15 [18].

What it prescribes

Ro describes its range as FDA-approved GLP-1s, including Wegovy and Zepbound [8]. Its pricing page lists the Wegovy pill, the Wegovy pen, the Foundayo pill and the Zepbound KwikPen. We found no compounded GLP-1 on its weight-loss pages.

What it costs

There are two bills: the membership and the medicine.

The membership is $39 for the first month, then $149 a month on the monthly plan, or as little as $74 a month if you prepay a year [1]. In between are a 6-month plan at $89 a month [2] and a 3-month plan at $99 a month [3]. If you turn out not to be eligible for a GLP-1, the $39 is refunded [4].

For the medicine, Ro says its cash prices match LillyDirect, NovoCare and TrumpRx [7]. Its published prices:

Insurance can pay for some drugs. Ro says only the Wegovy pen, the Zepbound autoinjector pen and Ozempic can go through insurance with Ro [13]. Insurance does not pay for the membership [14], and Ro’s terms say it does not accept commercial insurance or Medicare and Medicaid for its own services [15]. Ro does not take HSA or FSA cards [16].

Signing up and cancelling

You can leave at any time, but cancel at least 48 hours before the next renewal to avoid another charge [19]. Your membership runs to the end of the billing cycle you paid for [20]. Prepaid plans are paid for the whole term up front [2] [3], and paid fees are not refunded [21], so the lower rate only pays off if you stay for the full term.

Safety and regulatory record

Ro prescribes FDA-approved brand-name GLP-1s [8] and bills the cash prices set by the makers’ own programs [7]. GLPLens searched FDA’s warning-letter database in September and found no letter to Ro or its parent company about GLP-1 products.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Ro suits people paying cash for Wegovy, Zepbound or Foundayo who want one company to handle the visit, the prescription and the delivery, and who value a simple published price list. It also suits people with commercial drug coverage for the Wegovy pen or the Zepbound single-dose pen who want help with prior authorization.

Look elsewhere if you want your visits billed to insurance, want to use an HSA or FSA card, or would rather not pay a membership at all. In that case, compare buying straight from LillyDirect or NovoCare with a prescription from another clinician. Ro also says some services are limited to certain states [23].
